Extended Care

At this time, St James-St John School will continue to provide Extended Care following CDC Guidelines and all SJSJ protocols given for daily activity. This includes the use of face masks, physical distancing, and cleaning protocols. Students in our Extended Care program will be kept in cohorts, especially in younger grades, as much as is possible.

The structure of this program has changed, as we need to assign students to cohorts to limit potential exposure to COVID-19.

A sign-up procedure is now expected for families who will use this service.  We will no longer be accepting “on-demand” – students will not be able to drop in at the end of the day or call in for the same day. Until the COVID-19 risk becomes minimal, we are asking that parents use this service if necessary to meet your work obligations and not as primarily a social opportunity for your student.

Morning Extended Care (7:00 am – 7:45 am)
Parents may accompany their student to the front, but may not enter the school building. Please follow social distancing requirements maintaining six feet between families. Students in Grades 2 – 8 must wear a mask when entering the building and students in PK-Grade 1 are strongly encouraged to wear a mask.

After School Extended Care (2:30 – 5:30 pm)
Students who are remaining for Extended Care will report directly to their assigned area. Snacks brought from home may be consumed between 2:35 and 3:00 pm. An opportunity for outside or inside play and homework time will be provided. Students may bring a book or small item to keep them occupied. Cell phones and electronics may not be used.

  • Students in Grades PreK- Grade 1 will be assigned to cohorts who will be supervised in the PreK4 classroom.
  • Grades 2 – 8 will enter the grade 8 classroom formerly the cafeteria and will be directed to a specific location in the room.    Individual students are located 6 feet apart for the duration of Extended Care.  Students should bring a book or other small item to occupy their time. Cell phones and electronics may not be used.
  • Parents may pick up students through the PreK4 back door.

All students using the Extended Care Service must be signed up by the sign-up deadline for each week.  As the program is staffed according to those signed up, parents will be billed* for the dates and times reserved for their students.  Extended Care rates for 2020-2021 will remain at $5 an hour.  Failure to pay your bill in a timely fashion may result in not being permitted to use the service.

Please note that students are not permitted to wait for pickup outside unsupervised.

* If your student is absent from school for the entire day or dismissed from school before 11 am, or school is canceled, the family will not be charged for that day of Extended Care.
